What is a Puck Rake?
- The Puck Rake is an important tool in espresso making, designed to facilitate even extraction with the Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT). Its thin, metallic needles insert deeply into the coffee bed, allowing for even distribution of the ground coffee.
Why is a Puck Rake So Important?
- This compact WDT tool is essential for crafting outstanding espresso. Coffee grounds tend to clump together due to static, which can lead to uneven extraction and result in watery or bitter shots. By breaking apart the clumps, water can flow evenly through the coffee bed, maximizing the flavors that you seek.
How to use the Puck Rake WDT tool?
- To use the Puck Rake, insert the needles deeply and vertically into the ground coffee in your portafilter. Move the needles in large circular motions, making sure all surfaces are covered, then slowly lift the needles up and make more shallow horizontal circles. When you are finished, make sure the surface of the coffee bed looks even and give it a gentle tap before you tamp.
Together with your puck rake, we recommend pairing it with our Decent Portafilter Funnel so the coffee grounds do not spill over. Our calibrated Decent Tamper V6 offers self-leveling function with calibrated pressure to guarantee a flat and level tamp after the WDT hard work.
